Indian Song Week

Welcome to your International Music radio blog
As you all know we play songs from around the globe and if you have any song requests then please email us at shewa.mark@gmail.com or you can also call us live at (415) 338-1532 on Fridays from 2pm -3pm.
Yesterday, I got an email from one of our listeners, who told me that she always wonders how me (Shewa) and Mark look like. Thanks to her, she made me realize that we haven't posted any of our pictures on our blog yet. I guess the wait is over...and wishes has been granted. Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce our listeners to International Music's hosts!
(oh yeah... that's me and Mark in the back)

Now that you have seen us, lets talk about what's coming up this week on your favorite radio show. Well as you all know, I like to play a lot of Bollywood songs but now I want to introduce you all to Punjabi songs that have caught my attention this past week. Two days ago I went to the theaters to watch a Punjabi movie with my family. The movie I watched is called Son of Sardar. The movie was entertaining but what caught my attention the most was it's songs. Like I have mentioned before that Bollywood movies are mostly musical and have great song collections but I had no idea that Punjabi movies tops it all. This coming week, I want to focus my radio show on Punjabi music because it has great tunes. I hope our listeners will enjoy these songs  as much as International Music does.

Please don't forget to tune into your favorite radio show: International Music, where we will be playing some great songs from the movie Son of Sardar. To listen you can tune into ksfs.sfsu.edu from Fridays at 2pm to 3pm. I uploaded some of the songs here, just to give you all the taste of how color these movies are.

A Reggae Holiday.

Hello All.

We here at International Music are gearing up for the Holidays and want to get you prepared for all your international music holiday needs! yeah mon!

So...

I wanted to comprise a list of some of my favorite holiday tunes from di islands mon.
Here are some reggae hitters perfect for stocking stuffer needs.
now hear dis!

First,

King Yellowman gets into the holiday spirit with Reggae Christmas. This song can be found on the Christmas Box Set on the legendary label Trojan Records.

Second,

You can't possibly compose a reggae list without including the most profound figure of its music, Bob Marley. Christmas Reggae is done in the rocksteady style made famous in the 60s and 70s. Studio One is the label that produces this holiday gem. Don't worry more eggnog to come.

and Third,

The sweet vocal melodies of Beres Hammond singing the The Christmas Song. His warm vocal tone feels very appropriate to holiday spirit. This song is a regular on my Christmas playlist and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

That's 3 of my personal favorites with another 3 more next week.

Again we are International Music. FRIDAYS 2pm-3pm on ksfsmedia.net/radio

See you on the air!

Bless,

We are deeply excited about our guest coming this friday.

I won't go into all the details that Shewa covered previously. I will say there is a buzz happening because of this guest (our first one!).

AGAIN, WE ARE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC.

you can find us at http://ksfsmedia.net/radio/ EVERY FRIDAY 2-3pm.

We recently did a show covering our support to the victims of Hurricane Sandy and how New York and New Jersey were affected. In addition, since we are International Music, I wanted to give notice to an area that is not given the coverage it so desperately deserves, and that is The Caribbean.
The Guardian has posted a very informative article on there website (link below) about the devistation that occurred in that area. It also highlights how these nations need more assistance than the US to recover from such a tragedy. Please give it a look if you care about ALL humanity that was affected by this powerful storm.

Other links posted are different ways you can help.

Of course there are numerous ways to provide aid. These are just a few.

Moving on,

This coming week is Thanksgiving and our show may not be airing next friday (black friday for all you crazy shoppers out there) NOV 23rd. Have a wonderful holiday (of course that is if you celebrate) and be safe.

See you on the air.

Afghan/ Bollywood News

                       Mozhdah Jamalzadah

This coming Friday, we have a very special guest Mozhdah Jamalzadah coming to our show. she is an Afghan-Canadian singer and model. Many of our listeners are familiar with her music. If you remember, last week we talked about how she performed at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, DC in celebration of Afghan Independence Day.  At that event, she met Mr. Tim Nusraty, an Afghan-American who now works at the National Security Council at the White House.  Many months later, Mr. Nusraty recommended her to perform at the White House on March 8, 2010 for International Women's Day.

As an Afghan girl born in Kabul, Afghanistan and raised in Vancouver, Canada, she always wanted  to fight for women’s rights and to promote education in Afghanistan.  She decided that more than anything else, music would be the best way to do this. It was a long-term goal, and it involved a lot of time, dedication, and hard work, and many obstacles which she had  to face to get there. Today she is known as one of the best singers in Afghanistan.

We have invited her to our radio show for an interview and she has accepted our invitation. She will be coming to our radio station on November 16th 2012. If have any questions and want to ask her then you can email us your questions at shewa.mark@gmail.com or you can also call us at (415) 338-1532.  Don't forget to tune into your favorite radio station  on Fridays from 2pm -3pm  at ksfs.sfsu.edu
